As a certified arborist for 7 years, I am pleased to share with you the ways that caring for your trees benefits your bottom line.

First off, well maintained trees make an impression and make us feel great, relatively inexpensively! Most of us know that trees selflessly and tirelessly create oxygen, but did you know that trees contribute to a positive perception of our surrounding environment?  Properly managed trees have been proven to increase property values, bolster tourism, and foster a generally positive and healthy atmosphere.  That appeals not only to those who live around trees, but also to visitors.

Tree maintenance follows precisely the same algebra. It starts with picking the right tree for the right location and follows with consistent care. A large percentage of tree removals can ultimately be traced to the wrong species being planted in the wrong place. Some of these mistakes can be corrected by structural pruning, but again, training the growth of a young tree is generally easier than performing a major reduction on a large, old, established tree.

An experienced certified arborist can see placement problems and future obstacles that the untrained eye might miss. Proper placement of root barriers and proactive structural pruning can prevent the unnecessary costs of repairing sidewalks, topping under utility wires, branch and/or tree failure, and damage to homes and property. A rule of thumb for professionals is removing no more than 30% of foliage in a single pruning. This means it can take three or more prunings to revive a healthy tree structure.   Unfortunately this can translate into greater expense than if the tree was properly cared for from the start.  Your local certified arborist is one of your best resources in lowering the chance of your trees having major issues.  Over time, this will no doubt save you money and improve your bottom line.160166-services-page-replacement-photo-img_5301

A substantial tree takes a long time to grow. But with proper planning and management we can retain our trees for generations to come. By picking the right species and right location we can avoid many future problems, as well as effectively manage risk to property (and people!). Trees are constantly living, growing, and changing in a continuous process that we need to understand and work with.

Bottom line: starting early and maintaining trees on a regular basis saves money in the long run.
