ShowImageWith a hot Santee summer on the horizon, are you starting to look for shade and ways to save on your energy bills? Look no further than the ground!

Trees are actually one of the cheapest, most effective summer solutions around for homeowners. For just $10* a year, any Santee homeowner can water a tree—and reap its many benefits, including shade and energy savings.

Starting this week, we’ll be rolling out our campaign in Santee to bring you many more facts like these about the benefits of trees—and how to care for them effectively and efficiently—just in time for summer.

We’re proud to be partnering locally with the City of Santee, Santee Lakes, San Diego Gas & Electric, Urban Corps of San Diego County and the San Diego Regional Urban Forests Council to help you learn how and why to invest from the ground up in your home’s trees. Our campaign will culminate in a day of fun and learning for Santee’s residents—and you’re invited!

On May 4th, in conjunction with Santee Lakes Green Day, Invest From the Ground Up and our amazing team of local partners will host a workshop and tree planting event at Santee Lakes. What better way to celebrate Earth Day than with a fun day of learning and coming together as a community?

smokey-bearThe workshop will include information about the cost-saving power of trees, the honest facts about what it takes to care for them (hint: not that much at all!), and a chance to sign up for a FREE street tree for your home courtesy of the City of Santee!

If that wasn’t enough, Santee Lakes will also offer FREE admission to the park, and Urban Corps and Santee Lakes will host a special workshop just for kids, so bring the whole family! We’ll also have food, prizes and giveaways and a visit from Smokey Bear himself!

Space is limited, so RSVP today! View the event flyer here.

You can also checkout this great handout from the event with tips on how to water wisely.

Even if you can’t make the event, we hope you’ll follow what we’re up to in Santee here on our website or on our Facebook and Twitter. We’re so excited to be bringing the many benefits of trees to the homeowners of Santee!

*The $10 cost is annual and applies to any drought-tolerant tree, based on San Diego water rates. Assumes supplemental watering in the summer, minimal watering in the spring and no watering in winter.
