The Albany Community Foundation was formed in 2001 to create a way to expand charitable giving in Albany.  Our goal is to encourage and develop local philanthropy and to serve as a resource through which charitable funds may be directed to meet the needs of local organizations and emerging community needs.

The Albany Chamber of Commerce is a nonprofit organization established to advance the business and civic interests of our community. It is the one institution in town that unites the business and professional interests of Albany, helping them to accomplish collectively what they could not achieve individually.

The Chamber’s mission is to maintain a terrific business climate in Albany, to represent and assist our members, and help build a better community for everyone. Membership is open to all companies doing business in town, and residents who are interested in working with our members and other community groups to maintain the small town ambience that makes Albany such a wonderful place to live and work.

Transition Albany was started by a group of Albany residents as part of a worldwide grassroots movement dedicated to getting local communities together to create a resilient future. The Transition movement recognizes that money is not the bottom line, that an economy based on endless growth is unnatural and bound to fail, and that the consumer culture that many of us have enjoyed at others’ expense for the last 50 years – completely dependent on the supply of cheap oil and the result of relentless media and corporate advertising – is unsustainable.

The Transition movement believes that the collective genius of the community can envision, design and promote a localized way of life that uses a lot less oil, coal and gas, produces zero waste, relies on renewable, local resources and fosters a lot more creativity, community building, and fun. Many of us are excited that the concept of an interconnected web of life is becoming more widely accepted.
