Past Campaigns

We’ve made tree-mendous inroads with communities in transforming opinions about trees and with urban forestry professionals in recognizing the value of these community campaigns in spreading this message. We hope that by investing from the ground up, more great Californian neighborhoods will grow like those below:

Albany Campaign

Located in the Bay Area, close to Berkeley and San Francisco, Albany is home to a passionate, civic-minded community and surrounded by beautiful natural resources. Highlights of our Albany campaign included:

  • A Special Summer Free Street Tree Offer: The City of Albany gave, planted and cared for a street tree for any resident and business in Albany for FREE. Residents committed to watering once a week to help care for the trees.
  • Tree Planting Celebration: Planted trees to create Albany’s first Green Corridor. Albany Hill to Oceanview Park, the goal was to plant one thousand trees in Albany during 2013.

Bakersfield Campaign

Invest from the Ground Up worked with local partners—The Bakersfield Downtown Business Association, The Arts Council of Kern, The Tree Foundation of Kern, The Bakersfield Association of Realtors, The City of Bakersfield, Davey Trees, The New Development Association, The Mission at Kern County, The Kern River Parkway, and  San Joaquin Valley Urban Forest Council —to spread awareness about the value of trees to both local business and residents.

Through local outreach and events, we shared tree care tips and facts, such as:

  • Businesses do better on tree-lined streets.
  • More trees = more jobs!
  • Trees help save energy…and money.
  • Trees improve air quality.

El Cerrito Campaign

In El Cerrito our focus was on business owners and the benefits that trees can bring to businesses. The goal of the campaign was to initiate a conversation with businesses in El Cerrito on the topic of creating a healthy tree canopy which adds to a strong and thriving business community. Through the City of El Cerrito and the Chamber of Commerce, campaign released an online survey to give businesses the opportunity to share their view points on tree issues.

East Hollywood Campaign

Over the years, our partners at the East Hollywood Business Improvement District (EHBID), The Hollywood Chamber of CommerceHollywood Hotel, The Los Angeles Beautification Team (LABT), Million Trees LA and Street Tree Seminar have been hard at work improving East Hollywood by investing from the ground up.

In March of 2013, the Invest From the Ground campaign joined local partners in enhancing East Hollywood by raising awareness about the benefits of trees for both local business and public health. Through local outreach, events, and media such as presence at Farmers market and bus bench and transit shelter signs, we  shared important information on how trees help communities thrive.

A tree planting event was also held with a total of 101 trees being planted through community partners!

Santee Campaign

We partnered locally with the City of Santee, Santee Lakes, San Diego Gas & Electric, Urban Corps of San Diego County and the San Diego Regional Urban Forests Council to help residents learn how and why to invest from the ground up. Our campaign culminated in a day of fun and learning for Santee’s residents.

In conjunction with Santee Lakes Green Day, Invest From the Ground Up and our a team of local partners, a workshop and tree planting event was held at Santee Lakes to celebrate Earth Day.
